Recording Industry Putting on the Squeeze!
The Recording Industry Asssociation of America filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court alleging that Napster is not doing enough to prevent the copying of copyrighted songs. They're recommending technologies such as "digital checksums" and "digital fingerprinting" to make sure that current loopholes are eliminated. Go to the Napster Newsletter for updates.   In the meantime, music swapping communities like Swaptor.com and Aimster.com are growing in usage with little or no court-ordered restrictions.

The Irish family quartet's latest album, In Blue, has been certified gold after selling 500,000 units in the U.S.  The 3 sister and one brother act have been huge in Europe and Asia, and now they're climbing the U.S. charts. In Blue is number one in 17 countires.

The Corrs' single "Breathless" is number 9 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart. The song was co-written and produced by Robert John "mutt" Lange (Shania Twain, Backtreet Boys, Def Lepperd).

The mother of the Corrs' members died late last year during the recording of In Blue. According to Andrea Corr, it was very emotional getting through the album. They recorded in their hometown of Dublin, which also brought emotional elements to the recording. Check out the Corrs' Video

Beastie Boys Working on Album and Tour
The Beastie Boys have been working behind the scenes on a new album with surprisingly unconventional styles for these pioneering hip-hoppers. They recently released an anthology of their music videos, and now they're working on pretty serious stuff . They're playing around with jazz instrumentals on their 1998 Hello Nasty, and they're bringing in music from India. Their DJ, MixMaster Mike, drummer Mike Diamond, guitarist Adam Horovitz and bassist Adam Yauch have been working hard on their new styles. The boys are also planning a March tour to make up for the Summer tour that got interrupted when Mike broke his shoulder.
